General Information

The Bavaria Sport 400 Coupe high freeboard not only provides additional safety in a seaway, but creates a direct advantage to the interior space where she measured over 7' (2.13 m) of headroom down below. The hull side windows add the feeling of openness and on this very innovating boat. But the real excitement is on the main deck that features a separate cooking area, enclosed helm deck and many more panoramic windows.

The Bavaria Sport 400 Coupe features the sportier European style of an express cruiser with an open-feeling cockpit with the sunroof and large windows and doors that when open let in natural light and fresh air.

Convertible lounges aft in the cockpit and adjacent to the helm seat enhance the boat's versatility for entertaining, as does the standard wet bar and cockpit refrigerator. For all families, especially for those with young kids or who like to swim and dive themselves, we think the hydraulic swim platform would be a worthwhile upgrade. Below decks, her high freeboard gives the interior a feeling of spaciousness along with lots of headroom - - over 7' (2.10 m).

The Foredeck.

Walkways from the swim platform that can be finished in optional genuine or synthetic teak lead to the Sport 400 Coupe's bow. There's an anchor locker and roller and the pulpit is wide enough to make it easy to work with the ground tackle and bow lines.

The Cockpit

The cockpit features a U-shaped lounge surrounding a power-operated table that can be lowered to convert the area into a large sun pad with wraparound backrests. The area benefits from shade provided by the extended hardtop above.

Helm Deck

Moving into the helm deck, we see a major feature that differentiates this boat from others in class... the area is enclosed by a glass bulkhead. The triple-wide glass doors are all on sliders so that they can be configured with a single wide opening, or a 55" (139.7 cm) double-wide opening that can be to one side or the other.I couple this with the opening sunroof and the line between the two is even further blurred.

Main Deck Salon Once inside, a second gathering area is revealed with a dining table to port and a main deck galley to starboard. The dining table is teak, and folds in the middle to ease entry and egress. Directly across, the galley has a teak-topped cover that lifts to reveal an electric grill and sink. Below is a refrigerator and storage compartment.

The Helm

When looking at the helm, one feature becomes immediately evident. There is no panel housing a cluster of switches. Bavaria instead utilizes a single panel with an array of switches surrounding a profile picture of the boat. When looking at this panel, it is easy to see, thanks to the use of international icons, exactly what purpose each switch serves. If we were to make one change to this panel, it would be to reposition the horn switch so that it stands out better. Otherwise, it is a very clever feature.

A double-wide helm seat provides comfortable seating for the captain and a passenger. Bavaria places the tilt steering wheel to starboard instead of in the center, which makes it easy for the passenger to come and go at will. The forward panel is finished in dark colors to reduce glare on the windshield. The boat comes with a chart plotter, full engine instrumentation, a single speedometer and a compass. Shift/throttle controls are digital, depending on the engine package, and the American Edition comes standard with the Volvo Penta joystick for docking. Windshield wipers with a freshwater washer come standard, as does a Fusion Marine stereo.

More Versatility.

Across from the helm, the portside lounge is also oriented to face forward. A filler cushion creates a lounge seat to the outboard side and the opening side window is within easy reach. With the filler cushion removed, a forward-facing bench seat is created so that more people can enjoy the same view as the operator. With a nod to even more versatility, the inboard seat flips back, and lowers at the same time, creating another seat at the dining table just behind.

Below Decks

With the aft bulkhead fully-enclosing the cockpit deck, there is no need for a door to close off the cabin companionway. Looking at the Sport 400 Coupe's profile, it's easy to see that all that freeboard translates into lots of headroom inside -- over 7' (2.10 m) of headroom, in fact. The centerline companionway stairs lead from the helm area to the cabin's dinette and galley area. To starboard, the galley has a microwave oven, two-burner stove, refrigerator, twin stainless steel sinks with a cover and storage. Across to port is a convertible dinette with table and comfortable seating. Owners can opt for a power-operated table that lowers and fills in the upholstery to create an extra sleeping area.
